Soon, the U.S. Senate faces a critical decision. They will vote to pass a House-backed budget that pours billions into supercharging the Trump administration’s unchecked and unlawful efforts to detain and deport as many people as possible. This is unacceptable.

In less than five months, we’ve witnessed how the safety and rights of immigrants, refugees, and other individuals seeking protection have been dangerously undermined. The recent raids in Los Angeles are no exception.

We need to act now and reach out to our U.S. Senators — they must fund policies that strengthen our communities, our economy, and our safety. Not endanger them.

Tell your elected officials: INVEST our tax dollars in real solutions that restore the rule of law and uphold our historic commitment to humanitarian protection.

In the next few weeks, the U.S. Senate will vote on a massive spending bill to force President Trump’s domestic policy wish list through Congress.

As your constituent, I urge you to VOTE NO against spending that enables mass arrests and rapid-fire deportations of immigrants without due process and respect for human dignity.

Throughout Los Angeles and surrounding areas, ICE raids discriminately targeted Latino communities and worksites - including families and farmworkers.

These events did not occur in isolation. The proposed spending bill will only supercharge their efforts.

Here’s what is at stake.

If passed, the President’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act would unleash an unprecedented $150 billion to fund ICE detention and deportation while cutting Medicaid and SNAP for millions of people, including resettled refugees and asylees. This one, big messy bill is disguised as a “savings and spending cuts” package. But the numbers suggest otherwise.

The House-backed bill will spend:

- $45 billion to detain 100,000 people, doubling the number of Black and Brown people held in ICE custody today and preventing Congress from setting detention standards.

- $25 billion to hire 10,000 additional ICE agents and fuel the mass deportation of 1 million people each year with little oversight, due process and accountability. More than 80% of individuals deported since January have no violent felony convictions.

- $46 billion for border wall construction but only 2% of total funds on improving CBP inspection at ports of entry, where 90% of fentanyl is interdicted, and enhancing national security screening of apprehended noncitizens with violent criminal histories.

- Less than 1% of spending for immigration courts to efficiently address a backlog of 3.7 million cases and an average wait time of 4 years for an asylum case to be completed.

- Less than 1% of funds for policies to combat human smuggling and trafficking.

Instead, Congress should invest in solutions to increase pathways to citizenship, restore the right to seek asylum, and remove country caps on non-immigrant and immigrant visas.

For these reasons, I strongly urge you to VOTE NO against this ill-advised spending bill.
