TAKE ACTION: Restore Funding for Critical Asylum Programs

The state of California takes pride in a long and important history in welcoming immigrants seeking safety and opportunity. And yet, Governor Newsom did not include funding for the shelter run by HIAS’ partner, Jewish Family Service of San Diego, or for other programs of the San Diego Rapid Response Network in his first budget proposal this year.

These programs provide moments of kindness and dignity to asylum seekers, as well as essential support in a moment of transition. Defunding them will result in a preventable humanitarian crisis in our state. Without this leadership and coordination of local organizations, far more expensive emergency response efforts from local governments across California would have to step in to fill the vacuum.

Send a message to Governor Newsom and your state representatives to include funding for this critical program in the budget proposal.
