Dear Acting Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kevin McAleenan,
Over the past two years, we have seen individuals and families seeking safety in our country subjected to unprecedented challenges and denied access to asylum in violation of both U.S. and international law. We’ve seen children separated from their parents; asylum seekers detained in unprecedented numbers; and thousands told to return to Mexico to await a court date indefinitely while living in limbo.
Our government must make sure that refugees and asylum seekers are treated with dignity, compassion and respect, and that those seeking safety have access to a legal process that is fair and humane.
Our Jewish values and history call on us to speak out.
